Product Details

A dizzying 1960s  shot of George Square, looking west from high above the City Chambers, giving a great overview of Glasgow's 'grid' street system.

We know it's the 1960s, because the Georgian buildings, bottom right of the Square, are still in place, and the former TB X-ray centre is still in use, at the west end of the square, as the city's main tourist information office.

The Georgian terrace would later be cleared, leaving a grassy gap site, until the arrival, in 1979, of the bland and faceless George House office block.

Nice, too, to see the Square with its original four plots of grass, and to get a nosey into all those hidden courtyards which still dot the city.
